Weight Loss Week One – 5 pounds lost

It’s time for the Saturday weigh in. I’m a little disappointed by my progress, but I am going to share all the gory details of my weight loss journey anyway.

Starting Weight: 223 pounds
Saturday July 11: 218 pounds

To be honest, 5 pounds isn’t too bad for a week. But I had expected more. During my first Medifast run, I lost 11 pounds in the first week. It was an inspiring start. The numbers this week are a little more realistic. I feel like I’ve lost a little more weight that the scales indicate. The changes are minor but visible. My torso feels smaller and different. (There is definite but slight reduction in man-boob size as well.) My energy levels are way, way up and I overall feel great. 100x better than I did the week before starting.

Did I stay on program?

No. But pretty close. I slipped a few times with popcorn in movie theaters over the weekend. It wasn’t a lot, but I think the carbs in the popcorn may have been enough to throw my body out of ketosis. But I did “cheat” a little the last time I did it and had better results.

Did Diet Soda affect my weigh in?

The one major thing I did differently this week, was that I drank at least 1 Diet Coke a day. Last time I didn’t consume any diet soda. I haven’t found any scientific evidence that diet soda inhibits weight loss, but I have my suspicious. Next week, I am going to stick to water and black coffee and see if there is anything different.

Other thoughts…

Even though I’ve still got about 30 pounds to go, I am much closer to my goal weight than I was when I originally started Medifast. I have a suspicion that the closer I get to my goal, the more stubborn the pounds will be.

In 2 weeks I will start ramping up the exercise and see what happens.
