Happy 4th of July – Day 2 on Medifast

My second day on Medifast. I lose one pound, but face holiday temptations from the 4th of July.

Happy 4th of July to all my U.S. readers! I am starting to regret getting back on the Medifast program yesterday. I hadn’t taken into account the holiday that was right around the corner. Holidays are always tough because they always seem to revolve around food. In addition to the historic significance of the celebration, to me, 4th of July has always been about hot dogs, cheeseburgers, potato chips and cold domestic beer. This year, I will be making a few appearances at family events, but mainly laying low and staying on program.

I had a pretty good Medifast day yesterday with only a small slip-up (popcorn at a movie theater). Even with that, I can feel my body going through what I refer to as the Medifast Detox. The first few days on Medifast suck, because your body is not longer getting high amounts of carbs, sugars and other junk that it is so used to (and addicted to). The Medifast Detox usually lasts three days and is characterized by headaches, lethargy and sometimes a bad mood. That means your body is starting to go into ketosis and will soon start burning fat as opposed to the junk food you put into it. I’m probably making it sound like a bigger deal than it really is. My head hurts a little and I’m a little irritable, but more than anything excited about the days to come.

Today’s weigh in: 222 pounds (1 pound lost).

[UPDATE: Going forward, I will only be posing my weigh in results on Saturdays. So look for the next one in 1 week.]

  1. So I’ve never done medifast but am thinking about it. I would love to loose 20 lb in one month in a healthy manor. I’ll be reading your blog closely.
